Cheap imports from China & ASEAN hurting domestic paper industry

Rise in imports from China and ASEAN has put pressure on Indian paper industry as they are unable to raise prices to compensate for higher raw materials costs due to cheap imports. India is the fastest growing paper market in the world, with growth exceeding 5-6 per cent. India’s focus on education has caught the attention from ASEAN region where the basic customs duty on paper is ‘nil’ under the Indo-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
